Case Study Customizing Your Resume To The Company This case study / example is more minor than Mondays and Tuesdays but its still really cool. In 2005 this person (I dont know the name) wanted as job at Electronic Arts (over $4B last year) right out of school he sent a pretty weak resume (image at the bottom). Well, pretty weak except for the Accomplishments sections: Heres the whole resume not even a job at Taco Bell or anything but the Accomplishments is killer, and written directly for this industry (Im not a gamer, but I bet those games are EA games). Being bullied by the people targeting you by playing against you is also not an option. I have listed a few effective ways to deal with office politics based on my personal experience: Do Not Get Sucked into It: The usual human reaction to office politics is to fight back. Trust me, it is not worth it. People who play politics in office will not stop as it is their nature. You just need to ignore them and concentrate on what you do. Getting angry or irritated will only waste your time and affect your job performance. Do Not Overcompensate: Most people tend to fight against politics by working overtime to overcome the bad reputation created by the other person. People get so carried away that they forget all about work-life balance and over stress themselves causing various health issues. Work efficiently in your office hours and go home and relax, your work should speak for you. Do Not Let Your Work Get Affected: Office politics can distract you during your working hours and you may start delivering low-quality output. By doing so, you are letting your opponent get what they want. Just forget that they exist and focus on what you do instead. Avoid Getting in the Middle: If the politics is going around between other employees, try to stay away from that as much as possible. It is really important to understand that while you should always stand against wrong-doing, in a workplace, there is a hierarchy system which may work against you hence focus on your work instead of becoming a public figure at work. Relax After Work Hours: Office politics can cause a lot of stress and creep into your mind even after working hours. This stress along with excessive work may cause other health issues such as headache, back, neck and shoulder pain. Get yourself treated by a physical therapist from triptnyc.com. A relaxed body and mind will help you handle the situation in the office better. Talk to Your Superior: If you think the situation is going beyond your control, talk to your manager or superior about the work culture. He or she may not be aware of the situation and can help improve the work environment. Find a New Job: In many offices, the superiors are also involved in office politics, if that is the case then let me tell you the hard truth, you may be absolutely right and hardworking but due to the office politics, you might not do so well in your career if you work in the same firm. Start looking out for a new job in a better company before the situation gets out of control. Office politics is a sad reality which can get really dirty if not handled in the right way. Be diplomatic if you are facing this issue and try to manage the situation by ignoring it but if the politics is getting unbearable, quit before it is too late.

Youre more interested in establishing a career, traveling and seeing the world and developing relationships. In my 20s, I didnt want to deal with finances. I wanted to push a those matters into my 30s thinking that it would be more useful to me at that point. The truth is that your 20s define who you are.   Along with so many other developments, you develop your spending habits in   your 20s and they can follow you your whole life. If youre financially responsible from the beginning, life is easier.  1) A budget I cant stress how important a budget is. Unless you know what youre working with and how much your expenses really are, youre spending blindly. Thats exactly what I did in my 20s and ended up in a 5-figure debt that took me a while to pay off. Budgeting is easy and teaches you how to spend responsibility. 2) Savings If you get yourself in the habit of saving in your 20s, it will be a way of life that is easy to maintain. Few of us think about retirement in our 20s, but saving about 5% of a $40,000 from the age of 25 to 65 at a 6% rate of return means that you can end up with $479,241. Thats roughly $5 a day a latte a day! Save 10% and that figure is $830,678. 3) An emergency savings Ive had emergencies I didnt account for in the past and ended up scrambling to get money together to pay for them. Things we dont anticipate happens in life we lose jobs, we have floods in our basements, our cars break down, etc. Having an emergency fund means that we have peace of mind and when those emergencies come up, we can focus on them rather than the stress of how well pay for them. 4) Credit Building your career starts in your 20s. Although my debt was a result of my irresponsible use of credit cards (several of them), Ill never suggest that you cut up your credit cards. You need credit and one of the best ways to build it is to use your credit card and ensure that you pay it off. By doing this youre showing that you can be trusted with credit. Although we should do these things in our 20s, its never too late. I didnt do many of these things in my 20s and had to rediscover them in my 30s. Its tough, but its never to late to start at any chance. Financial responsibility is something that can be learned and implemented at any age.

The Best Job I Ever Had

The Best Job I Ever Had Ive had several different jobs over the course of my life. But there is one job that I currently hold and will always consider my best job. Many factors make this job challenging including:Ambiguous GoalsThis job offered little to no training and it really didnt come with a list of best practices that were applicable to my bosses expectations. There was much trial and error and the learning really occurred on the job.Terrible HoursI work nights, weekends, and every holiday. There really is no such thing as a vacation.Low PayNo one does this particular job for the money. And no one could afford to pay the person who does this job what they are worth.Unreasonable bossesAt times, the bosses demands can change on a moments notice and there is rarely a rational explanation for the request. You have to learn how to be patient and humorous at the same time.So I guess by now you are wondering why I could possibly consider this my best job and why I am still there. The job is being a Mom. Its probably the most diverse role Ive ever held and it combines so many skillsproject and time management, counseling, psychotherapy, food services, transportation, education, fundraising, advocacy, and even wound care. There is something to be proud of every day and I certainly feel like I am able to impact the final product. I know I am meeting my goals and quotas in subtle waysa kiss here, a thank you there. It is the most rewarding   job I have ever had and I wouldnt trade it for anything. I started this job 17 years ago today. Happy 17th birthday to my daughter Maia. I cant wait to see what will happen in the next 17 years on the job.
